About Mel – Dietitian, Coach, Athlete

Hey, I’m Mel—founder of RocketFuel Fitness.

I’m a performance dietitian and strength coach helping women and athletes fuel their bodies, build strength, and train with purpose.

From swim meets to sprint sessions, I’ve always chased the next challenge. I started out in endurance sports—swimming, running, triathlons—but never gave much thought to how I was fueling. Like many women, I believed training harder was the answer. Until it wasn’t.

A foot injury sidelined me from running and forced me to hit pause. But not for long. I found cycling, became a certified instructor, earned my Cert III & IV in Fitness, and eventually stepped into strength training—and then bodybuilding. That was the turning point.

For the first time, my goal wasn’t to shrink. It was to grow.

Stronger, not smaller.

Seeing the scale go up because I was building muscle? That was empowering.

I became a dietitian to understand the full picture of female performance. While I’ve worked across hospitals, clinics, and elite sport—including internships with the Waratahs and a premiership season with the Brisbane Lions—I kept coming back to one thing: real-world coaching matters.

  • What I noticed? My PT clients who trained with me, asked questions mid-set, and shared what they ate before training—they made faster progress than those who just saw me for nutrition consults.

    Not because they were more disciplined, but because we addressed the messy in-between. The late nights. The skipped meals. The gym anxiety. The real stuff that impacts performance.

    That’s why I created RocketFuel Fitness—a place where nutrition and strength training work together, not in silos. No cookie-cutter meal plans.
